SPRING & FALL | VAL-DES-MONTS, OUTAOUAIS

Seed Sharing Events at Hummingbird Forest Garden

Twice a year, we invite our local community to gather, share seeds, cuttings, and stories from their gardens and food forests.

Twice a year — once in spring, once in fall — we gather here at Hummingbird Forest Garden in Val-des-Monts for an open, informal seed sharing event.

Come wander the food forest, swap what you have grown, gather native seeds, and connect with other gardeners and growers in the Ottawa-Gatineau region who care about the same things you do.

What to Bring

You are not required to bring anything - this is the nature of seed-sharing gatherings.

Seeds, cuttings, and seedlings are all welcome. We ask that seedlings arrive in clean soil only, to protect the health and integrity of everyone’s gardens.

Please label everything clearly if possible: variety, year saved, and any growing notes you’d like to share.

Cuttings of food forest species for propagation are always welcome.

*Please do not bring divisions or bulbs — this is to protect soil health for everyone.

What to Expect

Gatherings run for 2 to 3 hours in an open-house format: come when you can, stay as long as you like.

Sometimes there will be a short educational element around plants or a practice. Sometimes it will just be an outdoor gathering with space to socialize by the fire.

The space is outdoors and set in a five-year-old food forest with established apple trees, native plant demonstration areas, ducks, two friendly dogs, and vegetable gardens.

Who This Is For

Anyone in the Ottawa-Gatineau area who grows things, wants to grow, and wants to meet fellow local food foresters and gardeners.

Gardeners and food foresters of all experience welcome!
